How to Escape from Duct Tape

Duct tape is one of the strongest, most versatile adhesives out there with a variety of uses. Due to the versatility and strength of duct tape, it has become a common way for a criminal to restrain their victim. The great news is that in order to escape from duct tape, you don’t need to be a bodybuilder and size doesn’t count. There are actually only three steps involved:

  1. Raise your arms above your head
  2. Swing your elbows back and out
  3. Smash your palms in

This method works in that the force of the swing combined with pulling your elbows apart, tears the tape. It doesn’t matter how much you wrap around a person’s wrists.

The same method works even if your hands are behind your back, maybe with a little more effort, but it works. Just lift as high as you possibly can and then slam down as hard as you can.

Although using this method will also work with plastic zip ties, it won’t work with the kind that law enforcement use as theirs are reinforced with metal wiring. Check out the video below from former CIA agent Jason Hanson to see the method in action.

The video below will show how easy it is to escape when your arms are taped to a chair.
